TJCA’s King recognized as an Exceptional Children Educator of Excellence

FOREST CITY – Thomas Jefferson Classical Academy’s own Susie King was recently recognized as a 2023 Exceptional Children Educator of Excellence by the North Carolina Department of Instruction.

King has been a part of the TJCA community since 2020 and serves as the K-12 Speech Pathologist, but has spent more than 35 years in the classroom.

Exceptional Children Director Pam Bennett nominated King and spoke highly of her work ethic and personality.

“Susie’s kindness and bubbly personality help her to make meaningful connections with the entire school community,” Bennett said. “She has a joyful willingness to support students in any way they need it while maintaining high expectations. More importantly, her students know she believes in them, so they believe in themselves.”

King was recognized at the recent Exceptional Children’s Conference in October.

Grammar School Principal Lisa Stepp said that King was more than deserving of this recognition.

“Susie is a valuable asset to the entire TJCA community,” said Stepp. “She is an exceptional speech therapist, and her joyful attitude is infectious. Susie makes TJCA a better place for all of us.”
