AVONDALE—History was made this past Saturday as the Thomas Jefferson Classical Academy (TJCA) competitive cheer team, in its first year of existence, captured the North Carolina High School Athletic Association (NCHSAA) state championship. Competing against seasoned programs, the Gryphons stunned audiences with a near-flawless performance that left no doubt they were destined for the top spot.
The momentous victory is a testament to the team’s extraordinary dedication, talent, and teamwork. Months of rigorous practice and preparation culminated in a high-energy routine that combined precision stunts, synchronized jumps, and intricate choreography. The judges were unanimous in their praise, and the TJCA team was crowned state champions in a performance that electrified the crowd.
“I’m overwhelmed with pride for this team,” said head cheer coach Jen Hamlet. “To accomplish something like this in our first year speaks volumes about their determination, resilience, and heart. These athletes put in countless hours of hard work, and I couldn’t be prouder of their performance on the biggest stage.”
